"The performance was fantastic. I was amazed at the beautiful music, the scope of the production, and the fact that a newly created work was so accessible and enjoyable…. All I could think about was your achievement of bringing this to life in these times when so little resources are going toward creative works. I also thought how other schools could use this specific work as a means of participating in a creative musical production." -Oakton Elementary School parent

Ondas Ensemble Since their first concert in 2007 as part of the Chicago Latino Music Festival, the Ondas Ensemble has been delighting audiences with their inventive and unique programming of new and historic works. Ondas – which means “waves” in both Spanish and Portuguese, also means “cool” or “latest trend.” Ondas works closely with contemporary composers, developing new works for chamber ensemble. Programming includes exciting collaborations with other music groups, guest artists such as Orbert Davis (trumpet), and dancers. Ondas’ performing members bring to the ensemble an impressive array of talent, as well as diversity in background and culture. Our core instrumentation is flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano that expands or contracts depending on the program. Our popular “A History of Latin-American Chamber Music” presentation has been a hit with elementary through high school audiences.
Central to Ondas’ mission is the promotion of Latino-inspired compositions among students of all ages and levels of accomplishment. The ensemble’s goal is to enrich the lives of young people through outreach presentations in public schools. Ensemble members are also available for masterclass and lecture recitals in colleges and universities. Cultural understanding and diversity are the mainstays of Ondas’ educational mission.
“The Ondas Ensemble is a versatile, engaging and multi-faceted group of musicians who play complex music with ease, verve and intensity. Whether it is a dense multi-layered texture, a lyrical melody or angular rhythm, the Ondas Ensemble always projects musical ideas with clarity, conviction and style. Its members are consummate players who communicate to a wide audience as easily and effectively as they communicate with each other.”--Gustavo Leone, Professor of Composition, Loyola University
