Victoria Holland - Voice
Victoria "The Philosopher"
Singing is a deeply personal experience. When our mind and our body understand how breath makes sound in the human voice, we become artists capable of great expression and connection to our audience. This is my passion, both as a performer and as a teacher.
Victoria "The Teacher"
I completed a Doctorate of Music in Voice and Opera Performance at Northwestern University, which included extensive studies of vocal pedagogy, musicology, and music theory. I regularly present vocal masterclasses and eagerly collaborate as a guest lecturer, presenting on a range of topics including Italian art song for voice and guitar, bel canto style and technique, Gregorian chant, technology in the classroom, and differentiation in general music classrooms. As a member of the College of Examiners for Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music, I hear and assess singers throughout North America based on the national standards set by RCM and its US curriculum, the Music Development Program. I am also involved with RCM's High School Voice and Opera Summer Intensive, teaching voice, diction, and masterclasses. In my Evanston studio I work with students of all ages and levels, preparing them for public performances, professional engagements, RCM/MDP exams, college and graduate school auditions, and for their participation in highly regarded regional choruses.
Victoria "The Performer"
I sing in venues throughout the Chicagoland area, such as Chicago's Symphony Center, the Ravinia Festival's Martin Theater, the Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church, Alliance Française de Chicago, and Harper College Performing Arts Center. In Italy, I have given recitals at Loyola University's John Felice Rome Center and Il Conservatorio di Parma. I perform frequently with the Chicago-based Ondas Ensemble, including annual performances for the Chicago Latin Music Festival and multiple live WFMT radio broadcasts. As an oratorio soloist, I have performed works such as Brahms' Requiem, the Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, Janacek's Glagolitic Mass, Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass, Penderecki's Seven Gates of Jerusalem, Händel's Messiah and Judas Maccabaeus, Haydn's Creation, Bach's Mass in B-minor and Magnificat, the Fauré Requiem and Vivaldi's Gloria. My favorite operatic roles include the Contessa in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Aldeburgh Festival, England) and a recital version of the role of Ellen Orford in Britten's Peter Grimes (Lutkin Hall, Evanston).
