Cornelia Babbitt - Cello

Cornelia BabbittCornelia "The Philosopher"

I think that music is as essential to a balanced and healthy life as sunshine and oxygen is to our physical exsistence. Playing music is one of the few activities that engages both sides of the brain and it can also penetrate the deepest areas of our hearts. Listening to music is always enjoyable but playing music is deeply satisfying. I love encouraging others to find their own musical voice through the cello. I love this quote: "Love and music are very closely connected to each other...both originate from the heart...and the destinies of both depend on whether the heart expresses it or not."

Cornelia "The Student"

I grew up in a small town in S.E. Ohio and started playing the cello at age eleven after several years of piano study. I went to college in Germany where I had the good fortune to work with master cellist and teacher Andre Navarra at the Musikhochshule Detmold. I was in his cello class for seven years. I received a Masters in Cello Performance and Pedagogy.

Cornelia "The Teacher"

I began teaching at the Youth Music Schools in germany when is was still in college. I enjoy working with students of alI ages and have found it especially inspiring to work with several adult beginners. I have maintained a private studio in my home and have been on the faculty of the Sherwood Conservatory.

Cornelia "The Performer"

I have played with several orchestras in Germany including the Southwest German Radio Orchestra and the Tibor Varga Chamber Orchestra. I was also part of Ensemble Internationale des Violincellistes which toured Europe playing music written for cello ensemble. Since moving to Chicago I have played with the Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Opera Theatre and many others. I am very committed to playing chamber music and often perform concerts with my husband who plays violin and viola.
